Over time, we saw an opportunity to make the Design experience more streamlined.
So we’ve refreshed our design tool to make it easier to get from an empty project to a complete, install-ready system. We’ve expanded our guide so you can instantly see what components you’ve added to your system and what you haven’t yet, and simplified the Component Selector to make it faster and easier to add these components.
Why change?
This change has been focused on two things:
- Making complete BOMs easier to build.
OpenSolar can already automate much of the work involved in building out a system. The new Design experience makes those automations easier to discover and makes it much clearer what’s complete, what’s missing, and what still needs your attention. - Making orderable BOMs easier to build.
When ordering through OpenSolar, you should know early whether the products in your design are available. The updated Component Selector makes stock status clearer and can suggest similar alternatives when a selected product isn’t available.
What’s changing?
You’ll see a cleaner, more modern Design experience, including:
- A clearer left-hand navigation that guides you through your design
- More obvious progress and completion states
- A faster, simpler Component Selector
- Clearer filtering, sorting and pricing for your components
- Easier ways to find in-stock products and suitable substitutions
The core OpenSolar workflow hasn’t changed. The goal is simply to make it faster to learn, easier to navigate and more reliable when building a system you’re ready to install or order.
